The slope of plotted data (m) is usually around -1.6 and the K factor for
predicting particle velocity in the upper limit of the normally confined charges is 242. For
cautious predictions, Rio Grande has used a K factor of 300 in all calculations for
estimating particle velocities in the various analyses done in this report.

•
.D
C
O
U

M

c
q
m
t
c 1-C
I O.5
0.8
~
O.7
~
~ o.s

o-s
d
,y o-a
is
d
se O.3

a
0.2
O.1
10

~ r
s ~` 1 # ` { i t _
,~
~~
~
i ~ ~
~~ ~
~
-4-~-
i
~~
-
~
_
~
_
.
~
.
.~_ ;
~ ~O r
r
~
~~'
~
~
}
4
i
~ `'~
f
~ `
~~
~
1
\
d
~
dI ~
\ ~ \ ~
~ 1
G~
,
~ o , ,moo
~
w
~~ 7
V 1 ~~
~~
~jr
~ t ~~
~ ~ ~
~ f-
~i to
'
'!~ Y ~
~ ~
~~~
"
_
`
( `
1
~>
Z
I I >
1 _ ~
i
K= 605
_._~--- ~ K= 242
K= 24
15 20 25 30 40 50 60 70 BO 90100
Scaled Olstance - tt.1)b.'~~
The Colorado Division of Labor blasting regulations require blasters to use a minimum
scaled distance (SD) of 55 ftAb`~ when calculating maximum charge weights. Charges
determined with this formula are designed to ensure that ground motion does riot
approach levels that might cause even cosmetic damage (0.5 inlsec.). Charges per delay
will be less than 360 lb, so the scaled distances are very large. The scaled distance to the
Blake Ranch (the nearest structure, located approximately 2,000 ft from the nearest
boundary of the permit) is 258 ft/Ibin, as shown below:
ApPExhibitsA-T-APP(1180)RevB/January U, 2002 8
