Page two
• Letter to Ms. Carol Pahlke,
Messrs. Larry Larson and Ron Naten
Re: Kerr North Expansion
April 30, 1980
As with prior letters of this kind, we urge you
to contact us immediately if you either disagree with or
find unacceptable any of the matters set forth herein. The
material below is organized in topical outline form accord-
ing to the various disciplines discussed.
I. SOILS
A. Baseline Soils Data - Mine Site: KCC has conducted
a soil survey of the areas to be disturbed in the Kerr North
Expansion area as indicated on the accompanying map entitled
"Kerr Coal Company Soils" map. This soil survey utilized
mapping units of approximately 2 to 3 acres each and thus
was effectively equivalent to or more intensive than a Soil
Conservation Service Order 2 Survey. In conducting this
survey, standard USDA/SCS field work and sampling procedures
were employed. Soil samples gathered in the course of this
survey were analyzed for the following parameters:
• pH;
conductivity;
saturation;
particle size analysis;
texture;
soluable calcium;
magnesium;
sodium;
sodium absorption ratio;
organic matter;
selenium boron.
For those areas located within the permit area but
which will not be disturbed in connection with the expansion
of mining, or which have already been disturbed in connection
with the existing mine, KCC will rely on the existing SCS
Order 3 Soil Survey. However, additional survey information
will be developed by KCC with respect to the proposed haul
road corridor in the southwest portion of the permit area
and certain proposed sedimentation pond locations.
•
