The only difference will be that the longwall panels will be much longer, i.e. approximately
10,000 - 17,000 feet in length as opposed to the current ones of approximately 10,000 feet.
The existing surface facilities, including the bathhouse, offices, shops, coal stockpiling and handling systems, and
coal loadout will be used for mining coal from the Eastern Mining District. In order to accommodate the panels in
the eastern district, a new dewatering facility will be constructed and three fans will be installed. One of these
fans, Zero Entry Fan, has been previously permitted. The location of these new systems is shown on Map 23,
Mine Plan, and also Maps 17 and 17A and Maps 18 and 18A, Premine Soils and Premine Vegetation, respectively.
The plans for these systems are presented in detail in the following sections. Only one of the new fan sites will
• require construction activities in an undisturbed azea. The fan site will be located at the east end of the 9 Right
longwall panel between the 9 and 10 Right gateroads. At this site, two fans will be installed and the associated
structures will be constructed.
EMD (Panels 2 Right through 6 Right) (PR 97-04)
The same mining methods utilized in the Eastem Mining District (EMD) will be used to extract the coal from the
remainder of the EMD. The existing surface facilities, including the EMD ventilation sites, will be used for
mining of coal in the new five-yeaz permit area. Presently, no new surface facilities are planned in support of the
mining that is to occur in the remainder of the EMD.
NMD (Panels 12 Right through 16 Right)(PR 99-OS)
The same mining method utilized in the EMD will be used to extract coal from the NMD, except that the face
width is increased to 1000'. The existing surface facilities, including the EMD ventilation site, will be used for
mining of coal in the NMD permit azea.
NMD -14 Right Gateroad Alternate Location (MR O1-171)
Currently, TCC is in the process of evaluating if the 1000' wide face can be increased to approximately 1200 feet
or wider. The outcome of the evaluation may limit the face width to something less than 1200 feet. The existing
surface facilities, including the EMD ventilation site, will be used for mining of coal in the NMD permit azea.
r1
LJ
PR 03-06 2.05-11 05/07/03
