- TUTTLE APPLEGATE, INC.
~. Consultants (or Land and Resource Development
September 21, 1993
Mr. Gregg Squire
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 ;iherman Street, Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RE: Coal Creek, File #M-86-044
Dear Gregg:

SEP 2 2 !993
LIV iS~J^ V... ~ ,. ~, .~~.. 'lP,
Today I received a copy of the memo which you received from Bob
Zebro:aki of the Soil Conservation Division. We are aware of the
items which he has mentioned.
Between September 15 and September 30 of this year we will be doing
grading work in the mine areas to obtain the needed slopes and
stream gradients. Also, we continue to be in touch with Mike Scott
of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service regarding their monitoring of
the trees. we are aware there are two stands of Cottonwood trees
that are under stress and trees have died. As you know, our permit
allows for approximately 158 of the trees to be removed during the
mine operation. As of yet, the operators have not cut down one
tree i,o allow for more mining. Therefore, I believe we are within
parameters for overall tree loss.
We intend to continue discussions with Mike Scott to devise a
mining plan which will control tree loss, and a reclamation plan
which will ensure a long term stand of Cottonwoods and Willows in
that ~~reek valley. The abundant Leafy Spurge continues to be a
problem. There are two parties from Colorado State University and
the Extension Service working on different methods to slow its
spreac9 in this valley.
The next time I visit the site, I will give you a call and see if
you would like to come along and see what we are doing.
Cordially,
TUfTTLE APPLEGATE, INC.
l~
Gary , Tuttle
GJT/s.j
cc: 1?ile #92-155
a:\92155dng.1[r
11990 Grant Street, #410 Telephone: (303) 452-6611
Denver, Colorado 80233 Facsimile: (303) 452-2759
