NORTH THOMPSON CREEK MINE
LONG POND CERTIFICATION
The long pond is located at the reclaimed North Thompson Creek No.
1 Mine site. It was constructed during September 1989. The
construction of the long pond was originally certified on September
26, 1989.
The embankment of the long pond was redesigned during 1992 to bring
it into compliance with the current rules. The design calculations
for the long pond are contained in Appendix 4-B, Pages P-9-5
through P-9-7. The location and further design information for the
pond is shown on drawing D-2-5, No. 1 Mine Seepage Control and
Treatment Pond Plan.
In accordance with Division of Minerals and Geology's Rule
4.05.6(10), this certification has been prepared to document the
reconstruction of the mine water settling pond. i, J. E. Stover,
P.E., certified the design of the long pond. I have a variety of
experience in the design and construction of earth fill embankments
and sediment ponds.
The pond embankment was fortified during June 1993. To the best of
my knowledge and belief the mine water settling pond was
reconstructed in accordance with the approved plan except the
emergency spillway was installed on the west end of the pond
instead of the east end as shown on drawing D-2-5. The pond design
meets the requirements of the regulations of the Division of
Minerals and Geology except the top width of the embankment is only
4-feet wide. See permit page 4-66i for a discussion rule
4.05.6(11)(h) regarding the top width of the~~~~1f.~nt.
~. r No. 1923~r~
.P .~ ~~ ~
~ i ~fS' • ...... •'~G~i ~
~"'
