~• The various buildings are expected to be multi-story, steel-frame, metal-siding structures
supported by reinforced concrete foundations. Foundation loads are expected to be light to
moderate, with estimated column loads on the order of 150 kips. Concrete slab on grade floors
are expected, assumed to support industrial loading of about 500 pounds per square foot (psf).
We understand that the mine development plans may change from those anticipated for
this study. The limited amount of borings made for this study are fairly widely scattered. We
should review the fmal plans to determine if additional exploration is necessary. It may be
necessary to perform additional study and/or re-evaluate our recommendations. We should have
the opportunity to review any constmction plans for consistency with our recommendations.
STTE CONDITIONS
• The surface facilities of the Bowie No. 2 Mine will be situated on a moderate to steep
southeast facing slope, inclined at between 3 and SH:1V. An existing unimproved dirt road
traverses the slope, providing access to most of the boring locations. The dirt road is generally
wholly in a cut section and is trafficable with slight difficulty by a 2-wheel drive pickup truck
in dry weather. The cut banks are overall between 1.5 and 2H:1 V, and appear generally stable.
The ground surface is covered with a strong growth of native vegetation consisting of weeds and
grasses, shrubs such as scrub oak, and coniferous trees such as juniper. Organic-rich topsoil
was generally not well developed. Few developed drainage features were noted on the ground
surface. Average rainfall is estimated at about IS inches per year. The project elevation ranges
from about 6,000 to 7,100 feet. Signs of wildlife were abundant during our field work in late

i
