REVEGETATION GUIDES AND RECOMMENDATIONS
FOR: Specification Aggregates Company
Box 10775 Edgemont Branch
Golden, CO SOA01
SITE PREPARATION:
Areas to be seeded should have a loamy topsoil applied over the rock. Depth of
this topsoil should be at least 8 inches.
Seedbed should be firm and smooth. A man standing on the seedbed should sink
in about ~ inch.
If slopes are to be seeded, they should not be steeper than 3'x:1, if at all possible.
SEEDING:
See attached Co-CONS-6 form for seeding guides and recommendations. P. grass
seeding drill should be used where practicable. This method will give: a more
accurate seeding with better germination success. The given seeding x•ates should
be doubled if the seed is broadcast.
The seeding should be done either in the spring before April 20 or in late fall
when there will be no danger of the seed germinating and being killed by frost.
The latter- ~Qthod is called a dormant seeding.
The seeding should be watered to establish. At least two years should be allowed
for establishment. If any grazing is planned, it should not be done before this
time.
MULCHING:
The areas seeded should be mulched. Mulch should be unweathered, unchopped hay
or small grain straw at the rate of 1~-2 tons per acre or 70 to 90 lbs. per
thousand square feet. See attached SCS Critical Area Stabilization re~:ommendations
for anchoring methods.
Mulching will aid greatly in improving soil texture, retaining soil moisture,
controlling erosion and shading the new seeding.
Mulch may also be used in a hydroseeding operation.
MAINTENANCE:
The seedings need to be watered aL least the first year to insure good establishment.
Periodic mowing is also recommended, where practical, to'promote better sod
density and to add organic matter to the soil.
If fertilizer needs are shown by a soil test, I would recommend an ammonium sulfate
fertilizer to help reduce the general alkalinity of soils in this area. Fertilizing
can be broken down into a spring and fall application
