This data
was compared to NRCS index data (NRCS. 1999) for [he mapped soils type in the area of Pond 012
(Nvenhuis, 1993-aj. The soils data collected for Pond 010 compares well with NRCS index data for
available soil and subsoil materials in the Pond 012 area. The following table summarizes the index
properties of the materials from the Pond O10 area tested fer strength parameters.
TABLE 2
SEDIMENTATION POND 010 LABORATORY VERIFIED DATA
MATERIAL TYPE ATTERBERG LIMITS
(LL - PI} PARTICLE SIZE DATA
(% Passin No. 200) USCS
CLASSIFICATION
Sandv Cla 38 - 22 86 CL
Sliahtl Sand Cla ~? - 31 96 CH
for Pond 012, it was assumed that the pond embankment would be constructed of sandy clay materials
similar to the Zoltay Variant and upper stratum of the Binco Series as characterized by Table I. The
foundation subgrade was evaluated as a slightly sandy clay, common to deeper stratums of the Binco
Series. The following soil properties and strength data were used in the analysis:
TABLE 3
MATERIAL DENSITY AND STRENGTH PROPERTIES
MATERIAL TYPE WET DENSITY SATURATED COHESION INTERNAL
(pcp DENSITY (psQ FRICTION
(pcq ANGLE
(de )
Sand Cla I?0 130 385 131
Sliehtl Sandv Cla RO 130 760 3.8
The parameters described above were input into the XS'CABL program to evaluate stability and static
safety factor for the Pond 012 structure. The accompanying XSTABL printouts document input parameters
and analysis calculations and results.
2.0 RESULTS
•
Using the analysis inputs described in the previous section, the following stability analysis results were
obtained:
Jlam7gomrry IF~ntrar .9mrn<nt Irrc.
