• <br />February 17, 1987 <br /> <br />~7 ~ i`~ C~ mss. fir/ <br />FEB 73 1997 <br />_ MINED LAND <br />Dear County Commission~~CLAMATlO(V DIVISION <br />iii iiiiiiiiiiiuii~ <br />! 999 <br />~. ~ Ir <br />Regarding the issue of permitting a second g avel pit <br />in the Animas Valley, please include my comments n your <br />records. <br />As a homeowner on CR 250 and a person who moved <br />specifically to Durango and the Animas Valley bec~use of its <br />natural beauty, I object strongly to the opening f another <br />gravel pit for the following reasons: <br />It is my fear the presence of a commercial g avel pit <br />in the Animas Valley will depress property values in the <br />immediate area. i <br />The gravel mining could substantially damage <br />vegetation and animal life in the immediate area ~ <br />the plant, <br />>f the pit. <br />Dust and noise pollution would spread out wi~hin <br />several miles of the pit operation. <br />Destruction of the aesthetic beauty of the v <br />potential impact on tourism, especially the Duran <br />Railroad. <br />Destruction of CR 250 which under the weight <br />possible 100 truckloads daily would require major <br />repairs--and residents would be taxed to obtain f <br />complete repairs.--totally unfair just for one pe <br />make a profit at the expense of others. <br />In summary, My wife and I moved two years a <br />Paso, Texas to escape the noise and dust polluti <br />environmental destruction that I feel will happe <br />this permit is approved.
