See [he Soils-Suitability <br />Appendix in Volume 9. <br />(f) The Orchard Valley and Orchard Valley Wes[ Mines have <br />coal processing waste and underground development waste <br />which is disposed of through the methods described in <br />Waste Disposal Area Development (see 2.05.3(3)(b)). <br />The Fire Protection Plan is as described in Waste Dis- <br />posal Appendix in Volume 6A. <br />Non-coal wastes generated during underground mining ac- <br />tivities are placed in [he Della County Sanitary Land- <br />fill. No acid-forming or toxic-forming materials are <br />anticipated [o be produced at the Orchard Valley or Or- <br />chard Valley Wes[ Mines. <br />CW; would segregate coaly shale material as much as <br />possible during, development of [he rock slope entries <br />• and place i[ in the fills at least four feet below [he <br />final surface. More suitable gray sandstones and brown <br />sandstones would be utilized as cover material. <br />(g) The Orchard Valley Mine entries are designed, located <br />and constructed so as to prevent or control gravity <br />discharge of water from the mine. Upon abandonment, <br />the portals and shafts will be sealed, as illustrated <br />in Figure 2.05.6 in the Final Abandonment Appendi:<, <br />Volume 6A. <br />in the Stevens Culch Well Field there are open well <br />holes. 1)pon closure of the mine, the wells will be <br />capped Eor abandonment. However, it is anticipated <br />that beneficial use can be made of [he wells after mine <br />closure. Upon final abandonment, CW; will evaluate <br />[his beneficial use, consult with the regulatory au- <br />thority and properly amend [his plan so as not to cap <br />wellholes, if deemed approoriate.
