• • ' ~ III IIIlilllllilllll ~
999
Mr. James Dillie
State of Colorado
Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
May 28, 1994
Dear Mr. Dillie:
It is 7:00 AM, a Saturday, and a holiday weekend. The crusher started
operating three minutes ago.
On Wednesday, the United Companies representative finally condescended to
speak to my father and asked us to be patient with them, things would improve.
Our neighbors and we have been told so many different things since this
nightmare started, it"s hard to sift through it all.
This "reputable company" (YOUR words) is, in my opinion, embarking on a
campaign of harassment. Todd tried talking to Sprague on the 25th, asking him
why they were working at 5:30 AM, waking up people, and working some days over
14.5 hours and they had a verbal fight. Shortly after that Sprague came here
to tell us not to worry.
I work in a prison, bit I feel more a prisoner here, in my own home. The
noise and dust (and it's been a very windy spring) are such that we have to
keep our windows closed. We can"t work outside or even sit and enjoy the
rapidly disappearing view of the mountains. We can"t hang out our clothes.
We can"t wash windows. We can"t hear the birds sing. We can"t leave any of
our vehicles next to the house for fear the paint and windows will be pitted.
In your public hearing I asked you if the 200 feet distance meant driveway and
anything else that they disturbed and you answered yea. Come measure. The
tc•ees are not yet in. They moved the neighborhood mailboxes without the Post
Master's permission, causing us more inconvenience because we missed cur pap~;r
deliveries when the carrier couldn"t see them.
Sprague's response to Todd was, "You can't tell me how to run MY business.
I'm sick of you people complaining. And Mr. Dillie is tired of your letters
and calls too!"
Is this true, Mr•. Dillie? You are an Environmental Protection Specialist and
our environment is NOT being protected.
To top it off, I"m scheduled for major surgery on Thursday, June 2 with a
recuFeration period of up to four weeks. Rtring that time I am supposed to
rest and take walks to build up my strength. You tell me how I'm going to
accomplish that when we"re being assaulted with noise and dirt morning, noon
and night?
cerel L ~~~`
~cz
ice E. Becker
