Coal File $C-023-81
Dear Ed:
This letter is in response to our March 22, 1982 telephone
conversation during which we discussed drainage improvement
at the Chimney Rock coal mine.
The drainage improvement is required in order to change the
direction of surface drainage in an area just north of the
scales. The attached map copy depicts the appro:cimate area
where such is needed. Current drainage is to the west to a
low area adjacent to the fuel tanks. The work to be
performed involves the placement of an average of 4.5 feet of
rock fill. The rock will be placed in such a manner as to
provide drainage to the north and east at a 2-3 percent
grade. The rock gill consist of well fragmented sandstone.
Placement of the material will be in accordance with 4.03 of
the Regulations. The area of specific concern with respect
to the proposed activities is, if such activities require the
submittal of a revision, while minor in nature, will
alleviate and improve a current drainage problem. In
addition, no new disturbance will be created a a result of
the activities.
A determination as to the need for a revision from the
Division is needed as soon as possible. The drainage problem
is occurring as a result of runoff. Following the
termination of runoff, the problem will not be as immediate.
10.5 Ens! Klowa. Suite 200 • P.O.
