of the town of San Luis, adjacent to the Rio Seco in the extreme
south central region of Colorado. The site is more specifically
located as described in Exhibit A at an approximate latitude and
longitude equal to 37°15' and 105°22', respectively. The topography
of the site is comprised of steep and rugged mountainous terrain
' with gradients averaging approximately seven percent in the valleys
to 20 percent along the ridges. The topography slopes most generally
toward the Rito Seco. The average elevation of the site area is
8,600-ft msl.
K.2 Temperature
A mean annual temperature equal to 40.9° Fahrenheit (F) was
estimated for the site from long-term (1891-1923) temperature records
1 available at nearby San Luis adjusted for elevation. Mean monthly
temperatures at the site were also estimated from this long-term
1 record and are presented in Table K.2-1. Seasonal extremes are
estimated to vary from the low sixties during the summer month of
July to the high teens during the winter month of January. The area
is not expected to experience any days of temperature above 90°F.
It is estimated that the site will experience, on the average,
approximately 200 days of temperatures below 32°F. Approximately 10
days of temperatures below 0°F can be expected. The mean length of
the freeze-free period is approximately 120 days. The first frost
generally occurs in mid-September and the last frost generally occurs
in mid-May.
