task, but the deficiencies are fairly consistent, and the details to provide are small and somewhat
consistent from map to map. Please note that all operators must sometime provide these items,
for all permit areas.
Though these new maps are needed, their lack is not currently regarded as a "problem" with a
specified corrective action date. I would hope that they are nevertheless accorded their due
importance, and your revised maps will soon to be prepared.
Please be aware that variations in a permit area boundary may constitute a permit amendment,
unless that variation is specifically "allowed" under the original permit approvals (such as in the
case of the Sunday Mine). Subsequent permit revisions have sometimes allowed a change in a
road or vent location, or method of reclamation. So please ensure that the most current permit
boundary is drawn, and that all permitted lands are depicted, even the outlying areas. All activity
and disturbance associated with the mining and reclamation must be contained within the permit
boundary. There will be a few cases of stormwater control structures which may be outside of the
boundary, but the important fact there is that they are mapped, maintained and later reclaimed, per
the requirements of the appropriate agency.
I should add that all these permit boundary comers must be marked on the ground. Please ensure
that they are.
Do not hesitate to contact me if a particular Rule or requirement is unclear.
