7.2 1991 Vegetation Establishment Excluding Perennial Grasses in the Derringer Pit topsoil
Replacement Area
In 1991 Trapper Mine modified its approved seed mix in the Derringer pit reclamation area in order [o
establish several vegetation test plots. Attacheds a map showing the actual acres associated with each
vegetation vial. Approximately 12 acres were planted to Trapper's approved range site A forb and shrub
mix, 16 acres were not seeded and 33 acres were drilled to our approved range site B and C seed mutes. All
of the topsoil was established via live haul vansport and all appropriate conservation measures, e.g. topsoil
dragging, diversion ditch establishment, fertilization, etc., were performed on the area.
7.3 Grazing of Reclaimed Lands
During the fall of 1991, Trapper fenced and grazed (cattle) an area approximately 376 acres fn size. The
grazing area is located in our Enfield pit mining area and includes approxmately 82 acres of undisturbed
rangeland and 294 acres of previously reclaimed mined land. Approximately 160 head of rattle were
released in the pasture on October 15th and were allowed to graze for 17 days. The stocking rate was
sufficient to promote utilua[ion of the vegetation by livestock and decrease the standing dead aboveground
vegetation biomass while ensuring proper use of the vegetation resource. Two lacre enclosures were
established within the reclaimed Enfield pit area. The vegetation within these enclosures will be monitored
annually in conjunction with our postmine (pre-grazing) vegetation sampling program. Comparisons will be
made between grazed and ungrazed plots so as to evaluate the potential impacts (positive and negative) of
livestock grazing.
• As previously approved in Section 7.5 of Trapper's 1990 Annual Report, additional reclaim areas are
proposed for fencing and grazing in 1992.
Wpb 3N2
[CMIRD\91REPT7]
I 1
L J
