• gave a practical estimate of the volume of topsoil available from the 14.8
f thi
il
b
th
il h
i
i
hi
i
i
h
d
acres o
s so
,
ecause
e so
or
zons
n t
s ser
es vary
n
ept
from six to 78 inches within small areas.
A summary of the Moffat topsoil removal (Exhibit 9.3-1, sheet 1) and
replacement (Exhibit 9.3-2, sheet 1) acreage and volumes is given in Table
9.3-2. A total of approximately 375.6 acres will be topsoiled using
959,866 cubic yards, resulting in an average replacement depth of 9.0
inches of topsoil. Two roads encompassing about 5.9 acres will be left
through the Moffat area (Section 3. 5) to allow management of the area.
The West Ridge topsoil salvage plan was similar to the Moffat Area
plan. Table 9.3-3 is arranged in the same format as Table 9.3-1. Each
series and its map units are shown with the depth of the A horizon, the
soil reconstruction rating of the A horizons and the stripping depth. All
of the soils had A horizons with a good or fair rating as reconstruction
material and were salvaged in their entirety, with one exception.
Approximately eleven acres of topsoil along the west side was not removed
because of the steepness of the area and the amount of rock present in the
topsoil. This area is shown in Exhibit 9.3-1. A summary of topsoil removal
and redistribution acreage and volumes is shown in Table 9.3-9.
The topsoils on West Ridge were live handled as much as possible with
• the remainder being placed in a stockpile. The property is owned by three
different individuals, each of these containing both previously mined and
undisturbed land. In an effort to redistribute topsoil over as much
acreage as practicable, two topsoil replacement depths were used. An 11"
average topsoil depth was used on areas which received topsoil prior to
1992 while a 9" average topsoil depth was used for topsoil after that time.
Table 9.3-5 shows the acreage and volume of topsoil for each owner, and the
average depth of topsoil replacement for the acreage on which it was
placed. Exhibit 9.3-2 depicts the areas, ownership and topsoil depth of
the redistribution effort.
Topsoil will be replaced on approximately 132 acres. Revegetation of
all lands, topsoiled and nontopsoiled, will be performed as described in
Subsection 9.3.5.
•
Renewal-3 9.3-6 June 13, 1997
