.i,
r
~'
-2-
Currently, 26 acres are under reclamation
•
This area includes a 5-acre
pre-law disturbance outside the permit boundary which was voluntarily
reclaimed by Castle Concrete Company.
In 1982, 54 acres was added to the permit to comprise a total of 193 acres.
Only 4 acres is to be mined - the remainder is buffer area. Of the 193 acre
area, 20 percent (40 acres) to be mined is previously undisturbed land,
51 percent (98 acres) was previously disturbed, and 29 percent (55 acres) will
remain undisturbed as buffer areas.
The major reclamation issue is revegetation. The steep upper part of the
quarry requires benching for slope stability. The limited amount of topsoil
available will be preferentially placed here to insure growth of grass and
trees. The lower part of the quarry requires fertilizer and crushing of rock
to manufacture a plant growth media.
The form, texture and lines of the quarry are consistent with surrounding
areas. The major problem from a visual point of view is the color matching of
white limestone with The forested background.
The current reclamation bond amount E64,000.
JD/es
7695E
