i i RECLAMATION
Reclamation will begin with the dozing of the OB onto
the adjacent pit floor. Some draws at the fringes of the
mining will be filled. In these areas a minimum slope of
6:1 will be established. Slopes internal to the pit will
be established at a minimum of 3:1. The overburden place-
ment will work hand in hand with the gravel removal and
should be considered mining expense, not reclamation expense.
Prior to placing of topsoil and seeding, experience will have
been gained in slope stability and corrections made to insure
a better grass stand with less maintenance. Diversion ditches,
check dams, terracing and slope lessening are some of the
methods that may be used to mitigate slope failures. The
Soil Conservation Service has done extensive work with the
land holders in the past at this location. Broderick &
Gibbons will utilize the S.C.S and other expertise to lessen
• their reclamation liabilities beginning with Phase I. b~ith-
in 2 years of completing mining of Phase I, the reserved top-
soil will be placed approximately 5" deep and seeded. Straw
and jute matting may be necessary in critical areas to es-
tablish growth. Hocaever, in the first go-a-round these will
be conservatively used. Management will be on the site full
time during mining. Part of their duties is to oversee the
continuing reclamation.
The succession of each mining stage by the reclamation
stage will proceed through Phase X whense reclamation will
be complete within 2 years of the last mining.
r1
