A major pur- <br />pose of the notice Is to solicit agditional <br />comments on the status of these plants <br />and the ihreel5 they race in Order t0 <br />assist In determining whether Or not to <br />propose Ilsting them under the Entlan- <br />geretl Species Act. <br />The Identified plants are placed into <br />One Of three CategOfles: <br />Category 1 comprises those plants <br />10r which the FWS h85 SuOStahtial <br />data on biological vulnerability antl <br />threats t0 Support a prgpOSal t0 lisl <br />them as Endangered or Threatened. <br />Currently, mere are 894 taxa in this <br />category. Development antl publica- <br />• Lon of proposed listing rules on these <br />plants are enlicipated. but. because <br />Ot the lerpe number.
