Coal Company
INTRODCCTION:
This is the first snnual report presented in the ambient
air study of the f G. Coal Company Mine. Phis rel,ort
contain:; data ubtrined during the period from May ], 1977
to April 30, 1't78, at. the mine site and at tlce loauiny
site. 'i'he dat~c pi ~renCCd is to as::i.st. the [I. G. Coal
Compzny and thc~ Sittc of C.o'.orado Air Quality llivi~ion in
evaluating awi,~.ent :standards in the vicinity of: the II. G.
Coa.1 Company Giine ind Loading si.tc~.
Taro hi.~h volume: sanpler, and one meteorological station
(measuring tain~l di •,-ection and eri-nd velocity) are established
at the mine sicc as shown in Figure 1. An additional high
volur~[e sampler (Test Site ;)3) eras installed upwind from the
loading site on tdr rch ].,, 1978, and i ; Located as =hoc,n in
Figure ?.. Ili.-':rol test si-te if2 tray moved on November 13, 1977,
to a near location across the county road, appro~:imately 50 yards
due North, and 30 '_t. higher than the o]-d location. (see figure
1). This cans dodo to alJ.eviate the influence of sampled dust
caused direcCly by traf~ic on the nearby dirt read. This near
location substanCia.L1y elimi.uated the road dust prc,blem.
EQL'IPDIENT:
The meteorological station is a Texas Electronics N:odel
~l'}6-A. This instrument measures and records caind direction
and caind speed con.inuously. This data is reduced manualJ.y,
and averaged over ~. hour intervals. This instrument is
installed approxi.mttely 30 feet from the ground to reduce
the influence of ground level turbulence on the recording
of the prevailing ring.
The three high vol[me samplers are General Metal [do[-hs
model GPI[JL-2.000[[. .hest instruments prll a measured
volume of air Lhrough a filter, thus do positing suspended
particulate p.catt^r on the filter. Thee samplers arc
operated every fou'clays for 24 hour:;. The samplers are
mounted on plat:for[, such that the filler. is 10 feet from
the ground. This ~.s to insure a repro=entative samt~lc
of suspenclecl paarticulate rather than ground level dust.
f '
~1
