M-94-005 <br />Please reference Colona Quadrangle Map. <br />Legal Description: That part of SE 1/4, SW 1/4 and SW 1/4, SE 1/4 Section 36, <br />Township 48 North, Range 9 West, New Mexico Principal Meridian, lying east of <br />U.S. Highway 550. Except a tract conveyed to United States by instrument <br />recorded in Book 26 at Page 473. <br />Commonly known as 21830 Highway 550 South Montrose, Colorado in Montrose County. <br />Highway 550 is adjacent to and immediately west of the subject site. <br />The site consists of 37.1 acres total with 32.8 acres within the planned affected <br />area. An area 4.3 acres in size in the extreme north-east corner of the property <br />is not to be affected. <br />The affected area is on an elevation that ranges from 6228 feet to 6208 feet, <br />lying on a plane that slopes from the south-east to the north-west. <br />The gravel deposit is a very deep alluvial deposit of moderately clean, coarse <br />gravels that were deposited by the Uncompaghre River in a valley fill process. <br />The river has since migrated to the east and is now approximately 1400 feet from <br />the subject site. The gravel deposit is covered with a lens of Vernal clay loam <br />that ranges from 1 foot to 4 feet in depth. <br />The site is situated on a terrace that is 30 feet to 40 feet above the <br />Uncompaghre River floodplain. This terrace runs for several miles from south of <br />the town of Colona to just to the south of Montrose. The land along this terrace <br />is involved in several different land uses, including various types oP <br />agriculture, gravel mining and light commercial uses. <br />The present use of the subject site is predominately agricultural with a single <br />family dwelling located on the property. Approximately 32 acres of the property <br />has been under cultivation for many years, and is currently in a grass hay crop. <br />Approximately 1 acre is involved with the house and appurtenant buildings. At <br />an elevation 30 Peet below the main level is an area 4.3 acres in size that <br />supports a stand of cottonwood trees and a suspected wetlands area. <br />
