The 9.2 pH value exceeded our current effluent limitation
to discharge under the Colorado Discharge Permit System. The elevated pH reading is a result of significant
algae growth in the sediment pond. To eliminate further discharge from this loption (temporary), [he
decant associated with the principal spillway pipe eras blocked.
In recent years, Trapper haz experienced significant algae growth in several sedimentation ponds resulting io
higher than acceptable pH values. -n an effort to eliminate future pH problems in ponds, Trapper requests
the Division approve the use of Aquazine algicide. This alglcide 1s currently used throughout the country
and was recommended [or use by both the Colorado Division of Wildlife and Steve Flickinger, Fisheries
Biologist at Colorado State University.
Enclosed is an information sheet, Material Safety Data Sheet, and letter of recommendation (Steve
Flickinger) for Aquazine. If you have any concerns about our use of this pesticide, please contact me az we
hope to apply (3-31R+Y per acre ft water storage) az soon az possible. 1 would appreciate your expeditious
response on this matter.
WAijb
]CDOHUUNl0]
Enclosure
Sincerer
William Agnew
Sr. Environmental Engineer
J.M.
