• MANAGEMENT SUMMARY
U.S. Steel Corporation of Eas[ Carbon, U[ah, is proposing to con-
struct a mine ventilation shaft, to rr_-route an existing roadway, dnd to
deposit excavated fill on private lands and on portions of the Gunnison
National Forest in Delta County, Colorado. The project area is located
on the western side of hlubbard Creek, fn [he NWG of Section 2 and NEB of
Section 3, Township 13 South, Range 91 West; and the SEk of Section 34
and the SW~ of Section 35, Township 12 South, Range 91 West. A cultural
resource inventory conducted in the 52-acre project area by Nickens and
Associates personnel resulted in the discovery of one historic cabin on
private lands. The cabin Is no[ considered eligible for nomination to
the National Register of Historic Places, but should be avoided by con-
struction activities.
Consultation with the U. S. Forest Service Supervisor's Office in
Delta, Colorado, and inspec[lon of February 6, 1979, National Register
of Historic Places Annual Listing of Historic Properties indicated [hat
no other sites are known to be located in the project area.
