existing roads will be minimally maintained by removing fallen trees (primazily from Hayman fire),
removing rocks, and improving waterbazs to prevent erosion. No new road construction is anticipated.
Equipment will be brought in over Forest Service numbered roads, RD 201, and RD 754. From these
roads, unnumbered logging access roads reach the designated sites as indicated in Exhibit E. These old
trails aze from 10 to 12 feet wide and wind in and out of trees. For sites A - D, it will be necessary to
remove a few small trees on either side of the road to "walk in" a track hoe. However, all these trees
along this access (see road on map to Ells Horn and Smoky Hawk claims) are now burned as a result of
the Hayman fire. No living trees will be removed for equipment access. Equipment will need to be
"walked in" about 450 feet to Site E on the Blue Smoky. For all remaining sites, clear access is
available to all mechanized equipment from an adjacent mad.
6.3.3. (1, (h) Water use:
Drinking water will be brought on site for use as needed. We will use a canister of water with awater-
gun attachment for washing newly exposed crystal cavities to determine quality and to assist in
collecting materials. At most, 5 gallons of water is used to wash material in any one cavity.
Personal hygiene, showers, etc., will be conducted off site. No other washing or cooking, except an
occasional meal, will be accomplished on site.
No waste water will be produced as an outcome of this operation.
6.3.3. (i) (i) Ground and surface water:
The nearest free-running surface water to any excavation is ovgr 1,200 feet away. An intermittent
stream exists about 650 feet from Site G. No nmoffwill jeopardize these water ways. We will not
penetrate the water table at any point. No springs, ponds, other riparian azeas or wet-lands are found at
any of the proposed sites.
6.3.3. U (j) Water ts:
No water rights will be impacted in any manner.
6.3.3. (1) (k) Toxic or acidic materials:
No toxic or acid producing materials will be exposed during this operation. The minerals being
encountered and produced aze silicates and are non-reactive. None of the minerals in this deposit react
to oxygen or to water to produce toxic or acidic products. No materials will be discazded to produce
any unsightly tailings or waste piles. All waste materials will be returned to the excavations and be
used for final reclamation.
6.3.3. (1) (1) Hvdroloeical balance:
A small impact could be possible in the hydrological balance and downstream areas if surface area
disturbed were of significant size because runoff could possibly be increased and significant timbered
areas could be removed. However, all sites in this proposal aze less than 118 acre and only a single site
is not in some stage of reclamation at any given time. Total disturbed azea over the I S-year life of this
