15. 6.3.2 E3~IIBIT B -SITE DESCRIPTION
In addition, the following addresses specific site descriptions for the proposed excavation sites. The
specific excavation sites are a maximum of 6,000 sq' (just over 1/8 acre) each. The specific site
descriptions refer to the 1/4 acre within which the excavation will be located. Descriptions do not
necessarily extend past these sites and should not be construed to do so. For example, most of these
sites have been completely disturbed by hand digging. Areas a few feet away are undisturbed. This is
due to the spotty nature of the mineral deposits. Part of the reason for this mining proposal is to obtain
mechanized equipment which can penetrate below the hand-dug areas into remaining productive
mineralized zones.
General:
This azea was recently burned by the 2002 Hayman fire. Damage throughout the azea ranges from
light bum to severely burned. All sites described in this proposal were moderately or severely burned.
Standing dead timber covers all sites.
6.3.2 (a1 Soils:
Most of the soils in the tazget sites were sterilized and little duffand organic material remains. Usually
the granitic soils of this area are not highly subject to erosion. If scattered grasses, timber and shrubs
aze present, the rain quickly soaks in and does not run off heavily. The fire has changed this and until
the area is scarified, potential erosion problems aze extensive.
6.3.2L) Structures:
No permanent man-made structures exist within these sites.
6.3.2 (c) Water resources:
Crystal Creek runs to the northwest of sites A, B, C, and D. An unnamed tributary of Crystal Creek
runs NW to the SW of Site E, F, and G. Beaver Creek runs to the north of site H. The closest
excavation site to water (an intermittent watercourse) is Site G which is 650 feet north of the stream
Ali other excavation sites aze at least 1,200 feet from free-flowing water. None of the excavations will
penetrate the water table. None of the excavations will produce any drainage or discharge.
6.3.2 (d~ Biological and wildlife evaluation:
A Biological Evaluation for the Crystal Peak Mining District ecosystem is attached to this exhibit.
Specific site descriptions:
Smoky Hawk and Elk Horn: Sites A - D:
These four sites fit within an azea 850 feet long by 200 feet wide (about 3.8 acres) trending 65° NE.
Total excavation in these sites combined will be .51 acre. The following description will address this
area.
