PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS <br />Phvsioaraohie Features <br />This site occupies on gently rolling to steep upland slopes. <br />Degree of slope ranges from 3 to 653. Oireetlon of slope <br />ranges from north and east to south ant west as the elevation <br />Increases. Elevation ranges from 6000 feet to 9000 feet above <br />sea level. <br />2. Climatic Features <br />• Annual precipitation ranges fraw 15 to 20 inches. At least half <br />of the annual precipitation Is In tM forty of snow. Optimum <br />growing season for native plants is wid-Nay to mid-July. Winters <br />are typically cold. Range forsgs plants are favored by spring <br />moisture from accumulated snow. Juno and July are usually the <br />dry months during tM graving psrlod. <br />3. Native (potential) Va9atatlon <br />Tha aspect of this site Is a shrub dowinated community. Service- <br />' berry snd^wkbrush srs the major brwA apactes. Srwywberry, choke- <br />charry..._a~~ era tRa other prlncFpal•shrub species. About <br />50 to 61~~arant of tile. annwl produatioa. Fs made up of grasses. <br />Nodding i'i~oiaa', mountain brows,. slander what, western wheat, and <br />Lattnrwan and Columbia neediagrasses are tM major grass species <br />on this site. Eik sedge, generally, is the most frequently <br />• occurring plant. Major forb spades include aspen peavtne, flea- <br />"- bane, western yarrow, Awerican vstchQ ant~lapina. Additional plants <br />present on.thls site include onJongrass, big sagebrush, geranium, <br />and low iaalupur. -• '~-~: <br />This site is generally trealasr~ except for possibly a few scattered <br />aspen, which have little or no market value. Optimum ground cover <br />is 603. <br />• <br />
