1
16
HISTORICAL USE
The amount of historic consumptive use attributable to the WECC water rights
l depends upon the amount of water historically diverted under these rights,
J the amount of land irrigated by that water, and the evaportranspiration rate
~ at which the irrigated crops consumed water.
The amount of water diverted by the ditches serving the land now controlled
by WECC was obtained from SEO records and is included in Appendix A. The
portion of water diverted and attributable to WECC, was determined by using
the ratio of the WECC ovmership in the ditch to the total ditch right. The
average annual headgate yield for each ditch serving WECC property is shown
] in Table 5.
The amount of irrigated acreage served by the various ditches was determined
by a reviev, of aerial photos, field inspection, and discussions with
~• ranchers in the area. The irrigated acreage is presented in Table 5.
The Blaney-Griddle method was used to determine the consumptive use for hay
and pasture grass in the Minnesota Creek basin, using climatological data
for tfie Paonia area. The consumptive use calculations are included in
] Appendix D.
The amount of consumptive use for each of the properties controlled by WECC,
and each ditch serving that property, is also shown in Table 5.
•
~_,
