The mission of the Colorado Division of Wildlife (CDOW) is to protect, preserve, enhance, and manage wildlife and their environment for the use, benefit and enjoyment of the people of Colorado and its visitors. One of the ways we achieve our mission is to comment on land use proposals such as the request we received from your company. Our goal is to provide complete, consistent and timely information to all entities who request comment on matters within our statutory authority and our nnSSIDn. To minimize the impacts to wildlife species please consider the following recommendations for mitigation: • A buffer zone should extend at least 150 ft. from each side of the riparian area. Trails and roadways should not cut through such azeas, and should be at least 50 ft, from the riparian areas. In the event that a roadway must be created in such an area, we recommended that roadway run straight across, and not parallel to, the streambed. • Re-vegetation of the drill site should utilize native vegetation. A list of native species, and their value to wildlife, can be provided by calling the Division of Wildlife at (303) 291-7227. • Since many noxious weeds aze present, we strongly encourage precautions be taken to prevent the further spread of these noxious weeds. • Hawks and owls commonly nest in the riparian corridor along Godfrey Gulch, East Godfrey Gulch, and East Bijou Creek. These raptors are protected from take, harassment, and nest disruption at both the state and federal levels. in order to prevent the intentional or unintentional destruction of an active nest, the Division of Wildlife recommends that buffer zones around the nest sites be maintained during any period that may interfere with nesting season. For further information a copy of the document "Recommended Buffer Zones and Seasonal Restrictions for Colorado Raptors," is available which details guidelines suggested by Gerald R. Craig, raptor specialist for the Colorado Division of Wildlife. Note that we do not have information on threatened/endangered plants or insects.
