Long
Division Dire<lor
A discussion was held of problems with the installation of ground water monitoring wells and the
initiation of the ground water monitoring plan. The following list summarizes the discussion anti the
possible resolution of each issue discussed.
1. The Uinta completion on well 21-4 suffered a casing failure and will be replaced with a single
completion monitoring well at the same location. A sample will be collected prior to 8/l/99.
2. The driller inadvertently cemented through the B-Groove completion In well 29-4. American Soda
will recomplete well 29-2 for B-Groove monitoring and will collect the 7/99 sample from this
recompleted well, then will drill a new single completion B-Groove well at 29-4 for collection of
the August sample. The recompleted well 29-2 will also be sampled in August and possible
September for correlation with 29-4 B-Groove data, then 29-2 will be abandoned and reclaimed by
10/l5/99. (29-2 well pad is in a poorly selected location at the confluence of two drainages, and is
being eliminated at the direction of the BLM).
3. Well 19-2 blew out during drilling when a gas pocket was intercepted in the saline zone. The
completion is suspect, and well may be yielding data that is not representative of the A-Groove,
e.g., elevated HAS. American Soda may abandon 19-2 and recomplete 20-4 for A-Groove
monitoring.
4. Well 20-4 has bentonite in the screen. American Soda may drill a new well for B-Groove
monitoring.
5. As a result of difficulties described in items 3 and 4 above, American Soda may not get the first set
ofcross-gradient A-Groove and B-Groove samples until August 1999.
cc: Max Ramey, American Soda (vin fncsimife)
Paul Daggett, BLM (vir~ facsimile)
