CASE NARRATIVE
D4G090452
The following report contains the analytical results for one water sample submitted to STL Denver by
Blasland, Bouck & Lee from the Holcim Portland Site. The samples were received July 9, 2004, according
to documented sample acceptance procedures.
Dilution factors and footnotes have been provided on each data sheet to assist in the interpretation of the
results. In some cases, due to interference or analytes present above the linear calibration curve, samples
must be analyzed at a dilution. For samples analyzed at a dilution, the reporting limits are adjusted
relative to the dilution required. Dilutions made for reasons other than the presence of target
compound(s) are addressed in the Supplemental Information Section.
STL Denver utilizes USEPA approved methods in all analytical work. The sample presented in this report
was analyzed for the parameters listed on the methods summary page in accordance with the methods
indicated. QC data for these analyses are included.
The results included in this report have been reviewed for compliance with the laboratory QA/OC plan. All
data have been found to be compliant with the exception of those items noted. The test results shown in
this report meet all requirements of NELAC. Any exceptions are noted in the Supplemental Information
Section below.
Supplemental QC Information
Sample Arrival and Receiat
The sample presented in this report was received at the laboratory at a temperature of 4.6°C.
No anomalies were observed.
Total Metals/200.8l200.7/245.1
Aluminum, Calcium, Sodium and Zinc were detected in the method blank associated with QC batches
4795374 and 4197233. Because the level in the method blank is not present at a level greater than the
reporting limit, corrective action was deemed unnecessary.
The MS and/or A4SD associated with QC batch 4195374 was performed using sample MW-10. The
MS/MSD exhibited percent recoveries outside the QC control limits for Aluminum and Potassium. The
acceptable LCS analysis data indicated that the analytical system was operating within control; therefore,
corrective action was deemed unnecessary.
The Calcium, Magnesium and Sodium recoveries and Relative Percent Difference (RPD) for the MS/MSD
associated with QC batch 4195374 could not be calculated because the sample amount was greater than
four times the spike amount. The acceptable LCS analysis data indicated that the analytical system was
operating within control; therefore, corrective action was deemed unnecessary.
All other QC data was in control.
No other anomalies were observed.
General Chemistry
Each sample is analyzed to achieve the lowest possible reporting limits within the constraints of the
methods. Due to high constituent concentration, the Nitrate-Nitrite, Nitrite and Sulfate analyses for sample
