Calculation Cross-Sections, Maps 39 through 43.
• Material movement volumes and haulage distances for excavation of the drainage channel
connecting the recontoured West Pit drainage basin to Taylor Creek were determined by
comparing topographic contours for the drainage channel layout with the existing topography in
the azea as documented in Appendix A, Volume Documentation.
Material movement requirements for topsoil replacement were determined by measuring
the average haulage distance from the centroid of the closest topsoil stockpile to the centroid of
each respective disturbance area. The distribution of topsoil from available stockpiles to specific
replacement azea(s) was based on regraded surface area(s) and average replacement depths as
specified in the reclamation plan for each disturbance azea, and the total estimated volumes for
each topsoil pile. A topsoil swell factor of 15 percent was used to convert from BCY to LCY, as
stockpiled topsoil typically remains in an uncompacted state prior to redisturbance. Topsoil
balances for each stockpile aze included in Appendix A, Volume Documentation, and topsoil
haulage distances are documented in Appendix B, Productivity Documentation.
The volume of sediment pond embankment material to be graded into the pond
• impoundments during final reclamation was calculated directly from the pond design
specifications presented in the approved permit. The volume of material to be moved to backfill
and recontour ditch areas during final reclamation was calculated directly from the ditch design
specifications presented in the approved permit. Supporting calculations aze included in Appendix
A, Volume Documentation.
The volume of material to be moved in order to recontour the Taylor Creek and Nielson
Scoria Pits was calculated from specifications presented in the approved permit. Supporting
calculations aze included in Appendix A, Volume documentation. Volumes and azeas for the
other reclamation functions including asphalt removal, road width reduction, and road and
facilities ripping, were determined by direct measurement from maps, with corresponding azea
and volume figures provided in Appendix A, Volume Documentation. Reclamation volumes for
all areas and reclamation functions (as appropriate) are shown on the individual cost estimate
work sheets.
Selection of the most practical haulage routes for material movements involved review of
the existing haul road network relative to the source and destination of reclamation materials,
• layout of haulage segments to minimize total haulage distance and limit adverse grades,
determination of representative haul profiles, and elimination of any unfavorable alternative
haulage routes relative to construction or operating considerations.
