During the woek of May 6, a pH reading of 9.17 <br />was moasured (above the permit limit of 9.0). The smglo elevated reading appears to havo been related t0 algae growth in the <br />wasto water lagoons. Subsequent use of an algaecide, and tho development of a surface duckweed cover, reduced algao <br />growth. All subsequent pH roadings in the period were below 9.0. <br />EPouenl from Outfall 002 mores with spoil water and eventually makes its way lnlo subsurface mine walor. Sonw of We <br />subsurlacrt mine water Is discharged penodically at Outlall 001. Based upon the strort duraUOn/limited volume of the elevated <br />pH episodo, end the dtlution factor Ot mixing with subsurface mine wafer, TCC is of the oplnl0n that n0 significant <br />environmental impact occurretl during the second quarter of 2002. <br />A Ouarlerly Whole Efiluont Toxidty (WET) conducted in Apnl indicated that the effluent was not acutely toxic to P. Prometas or <br />C. Dubla.
