Kubic
Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
WQCD-PE-B2
4300 Cherry Creek Drive South
Denver, CO 80222-1530
Deaz Mr. Kubic:
In accordance with part I.B.3.d of the above referenced permit, P&M hereby provides the first
TIE investigation status report pertaining to the "Pattern of Toxicity" demonstrated from
Dischazge Point 007 at the Edna Mine.
In accordance with the formal TIE protocol, a routine acute WET test was performed on the
Ceriodaphnia sp. in addition to the effluent constituent composition. The results of test showed
the effluent to be non-toxic in accordance with the acute WET test pass/fail criteria. However,
the Ceriodaphnia sp. did sustain a 45% loss of individuals in the 100% effluent concentration
indicating the presence of toxicity.
The constituent composition analyses indicated that total dissolved solids, sulfate, and copper
were the pazameters which appeaz to have the greatest influence on the toxicity present.
Additional testing/modeling using these constituents is being performed to evaluate the possible
cause of the toxicity.
Sincerely,
~a~\
Brian D.
