,\ <br />This series occurs in map units CVB, CVU and TCD. It was sampled <br />in typical pedon number 17 and in composite sample numbers 107/70 and <br />150/190. Average lift 1 thickness is U inches, average lifit 2 <br />thickness is 15 inches, for an average total salvayabie thickness for <br />the series of 15 inches. <br />2.1.3 Cryaquolls <br />This soil is a deep, poorly drained, moderately permeable soil <br />formed in alluvium derived from sandstone and shale. It occurs on <br />valley floors on slopes of 2 to 8 percent. The native vegetation is <br />rushes and sedges. The available water holding capacity is high. <br />In a typical profile, the surface ]aver is very dark grey loam <br />about 4 inches thick. The subsoil is very dark gray to dark grayish <br />brown, mottled, loam, clay loans or sandy clay loam about 19 inches <br />thick. The substratum is a very dark gray stratified gravelly clay <br />loam, silty clay loam and silty clay about 37 inches thick or more. <br />Depth to bedrock is more than 60 inches. The soil is mostly within <br />the fine-loamy families of various subgroups of Cryaquolls. <br />The mollic epidedon of the Cryaquolls averages 44 inches thick. <br />The material below the mollic epipedon is suitable to 6U inches as <br />lift 2 material. A water table may be encountered at any depth below <br />• about 4 inches. The soil is usua lly too wet to salvage, but some of <br />it might be salvaged when the water table is at its low point for the <br />season. <br />The soil occurs in map unit CA. It was sampled in typical pedon <br />number 10 and in composite sample numbers 248/Z86. Average lift 1 <br />thickness is 44 inches, average lift 2 thickness is 16+ inches, for an <br />average total salvagable thickness for the series of 6U+ inches. <br />2.1.4 Jerry Loam <br />This soil is a deep, well drained, moderately permeable soil <br />formed in residuum and colluvium derived from shale. It occurs on <br />ridges and broad benches on slopes of 3 to 5U percent. The native <br />vegetation is serviceberry, big sage, snowberry and grasses. The <br />available water holding capacity is high. <br />In a typical profile, the surface layer is black loam about 12 <br />inches thick. The subsoil is very dark brown, sandy clay loam t0 clay <br />about 41 inches thick. The substratum is dark grayish brown, clay to <br />channery clay about 7 inches thick or more. Depth to bedrock is 40 to <br />6U inches. The series is within the fine, montmoriilonitic family of <br />Argic Cryoborolls. <br />The mollic epipedon ranges from 7 to 16 inches, but averages 1L <br />inches. The surface layers are good for lift 1 material. The <br />subsoils are suitable for liftL but are fair to marginal due to the <br />fine textures. <br />9 <br />
