The permit area is 9.78 acres on
alluvial deposits of the near-by Arkansas River. Part of this
permit area is 2.6 acres of a gravel pit mined out years ago. The
area is nearly 1/2 mile out of the present flood plain, by virtue
of the Corps of Engineers flood dike control.
The mining will supply the needs of Hent Ready Mix for the
next several years.
Mining will continue on the west end of the site, until
resource is exhausted. No further excavation will occur on west
end of site. The 0.6 acres on west end of site will be used for
equipment storage, fuel tank, etc.. Mining will then commence on
the east side of present pit.
Top soil will be segregated and stored for later use. Waste
material will be stock piled separate from top soil on south area
of pit.
Mining is in an area where water table 1s approximately 5 feet
below surface. Mining can reach 1Z feet in depth. Operator is fn
contact with Division of water Resources to maintain compliance.
Water table may fluctuate up to one foot.
Materials will be stripped only on areas to be mined, as
needed. This will minimize the danger of erosion. Stock piles of
materials will be on the south portion of site. Stock piles will
be sloped at 3:1 ration and top soil will be used if seeding is
necessary during mining operation.
Slopes of pond will be maintained at 3:1 during mining.
As mining continues on the east of site as many as 10 large
trees may be disturbed. These trees will be cut and used for
firewood with stumps placed in pond for fish habitat.
