The following land uses have been identified within the
• proposed permit area and adjacent area: 1) fish and wildlife
habitat 2) rangeland 3) developed water resources 4) recreation
5) oil and gas production and 6) coal production. These land
uses have not changed within the past five years or are expected
to change in the future (Figures 2A and 3A).
Rangeland and wildlife habitat are the primary land uses
of the proposed permit area. Low precipitation, droughty soils
and lack of developed water resources have precluded the development
of agricultural activities.
Currently, the proposed permit area falls in a portion of
one grazing allotment. Allotment No. 7010 is under permit to the
Boller Livestock Company. The allotment consists of 2500 acres
of public land and 1025 acres of private land. Estimated carrying
capacity of the public land within the allotment is 565 AUM's,
with an average stocking rate of 4.4 acres/AUDI. The season of
use is from May 15 to July 1, with 497 AU's. Allotment No. 7010
has been rated as being in fair condition with a stable trend,
according to the North Park Unit Resource Analysis (URA), 1975.
~ Vegetation studies were conducted during 1979 and 1980 to obtain
estimates of vegetative production and cover. This information is
presented in Appendix F and further defines the capability of the
land within the proposed permit area.
There are currently two range improvements within the proposed
lease area. BLM Project No. 3672 consists of nearly three miles of
allotment boundary fence, of which approximately one-quarter mile
falls within the proposed lease area. Wyoming Fuel will restore
this fence at the conclusicn of mining. Project No. 3778 consists
of 1,940 acres of brush control treatment by spraying (1964), of
which approximately 80 acres fall within the proposed lease area.
There are no water-oriented projects within the boundaries of the
lease area.
"~1
