Toosoil Removal Plan
Prior to any mining related disturbances, topsoil will be removed
from the site to be disturbed as discussed in Section 4.06 and
redistributed or stockpiled as necessary to satisfy the needs of
the reclamation timetable.
Topsoil will be removed in the permit area by large crawler mounted
bulldozers, loaders or scrapers as described in Section 2.05.3,
Production Methods and Eouioment.
The sequence and timetable for all topsoil redistribution and
revegetation activities is found on the Topsoil Handling Map (Map
28). A topsoil handling map has not been prepared for the north
area since all disturbances in the north area have been completed,
and all of the topsoil removed from these areas, except for four
very small stockpiles, was either replaced on parts of the
disturbed areas and revegetated or stockpiled at the main pile for
the mine area.
Overall life-of-mine topsoil balance is estimated in Table 1,
• Topsoil Schedule for Mining Area, while the estimated topsoil
balance for the 1991 -1995 permit term is found in Table 2, Topsoil
Removal and Reclamation Schedule.
Estimated acreage and volume of topsoil to be stripped annually for
the current five-year permit term is included in Table 2, as well
as the estimated acreage and volume of topsoil to be reapplied
annually to regraded spoils.
It should be stressed that these yearly figures are estimates and
can only be useful as a general guide to topsoil removal or
replacement during any given year.
All yardage and acreage figures were calculated based upon the
assumption that topsoil would be removed in advance of mining
activities as shown on Topsoil Handling Map (Map 28). A buffer
zone will be provided between the area disturbed by mining and the
area where topsoil has not been removed. During the initial five-

2.05-24
