Weber <br />Colorado Springs, CO 80907 <br />July 14, 1976 <br />Gilbert Rindahl, Director <br />Reclamation Section <br />Department of Natural Resources <br />1313 Sherman Street <br />Denver, CO 80218 <br />• ~ ~~'~'~ <br />J~~~a <br />a~-~r <br />yla <br />~,,, e <br />Concerning the environmental impact of Certified Concrete's <br />gravel operation between State Highway 96 and the Arkansas <br />River approximately 1 1/2 miles west of Pueblo, Colorado. <br />At the present stage of operation, no significant disturbance <br />to the area's wildlife is occurring other than the presence <br />of human activity. <br />The only endangered species possibly occurring on this area <br />is the peregrine falcon, and then only during hunting flights. <br />Certified Concrete's operation should have no negative affects <br />on the peregrine and may have some positive affects by pro- <br />viding habitat for peregrine prey species, waterfowl. <br />For reclamation of the operation area, the Division of Wildlife <br />would like to see the following suggestions considered: <br />1) Reseed the area with native grass and forb species. <br />2) Plant native species of trees and shrubs at random <br />intervals along the shorelines of the ponds and <br />around the edge of the operations area. ~/ <br />3) Shape littoral zones to a 3 to 1 slope. ~ 3 <br />4) Establish shallow areas in the ponds to promote ,) ~ ~ <br />submerged and emergent aquatic plant growth.
