color photos were reviewed in AI's Arvada office after they arrived several days later
• from storage in Flagstaff, AZ.
Landslide deposits were not observed on the b-w photos. Exposures examined
were 1) 1992 (1:27,000 and 1:60,000), 2) 1997 (1:27,000); and 3) 1998 (1:27,000).
After the initial examination of the photographs Messrs. Altavilla and James, and the
writer went to the field and observed several of the areas mapped as landslide deposits on
Exhibit 6-1; however, none of these exhibited characteristic landslide morphology, and
some simply were in bedrock. In areas where topsoil had been removed there was no
indication of landslides having been in place before excavation.
On July 2nd Messrs. Altavilla, James, and the writer made a brief telephone
conference call to Dr. Pendleton and reported preliminary conclusions regarding the
office and fieldwork.
Additional subsequent review in Arvada of the b-w and natural color photographs
showed no indication of landslide deposits except one small questionable feature
(Landslide D, Fig. 1).
A second trip to the field was made with Mr. Altavilla. Although the primary
reason for this trip was for the writer to duplicate pictures that had been taken with a
malfunctioning camera on July 1st and 2nd, this trip served to reinforce the prior field
observations.
4.02 Comparison with Exhibit 6-1
The landslides mapped on Exhibit 6-1 are shown on Drawing 9316-B-1. Four
landslides in the northwest corner of the drawing were excluded from this investigation
because they aze welt outside of the mine permit area and its vicinity.
