The following information is provided in response to the Jully 13, 1981
letter from Brian E. Munson, Reclamation Specialist, regarding Ithe Hayden
Gulch Mine Permit application.
REVIEW QUESTION
at is t e justification for values used for the "C" and 'iP" factors
in the Universal Soil Loss Equation? The "C" factors used are ,much lower
than commonly accepted and the "P" factor of 0.6 should normally be 1.0
unless the reclamation plan calls for cultural practices; such as
contouring, pitting, etc.
RESPONSE I
For "C" Factor:
See: Reference #8
Table 4
Assume: Grass-like cover at surface
No appreciable canopy cover
1980 - 3% Cover
at o% CO = 1.0
at 10% C10 = 0.45
C3 = 1.0 - 10 (1.0 - 0.45) = 0.84
1981 - 30% Cover
CP0 = 0.20
Cop = 0.10
C30 = 0.20 - 20 (0.20 - 0.10) = 0.15
1982 - 39% Cover
C20 = 0.20
C40 = 0.10
C39 = 0.20 - 2~ (0.20 - 0.10) = 0.11
.n-~
M130
„~ ~a,. ~
«.i;..,,A~i: ':aa+txt~•~~~- -rays:ikz...-,neLL^_""R;"..'C_;.»:'."&'.::.'~": `.,'r'te .. ~3N: ~;+asi;, '~'~t `..
~:
