I I
The following information is provided in response to the July 13, 1981
letter from Brian E. Munson, Reclamation Specialist, regarding Ithe Hayden
. _ Gulch Mine Permit Application.
REVIEW QUESTION
ease gustify the use of 100 lb/ft3 as the weight of sediment since
normal soils generally have densities averaging 70 lb/ft3. A11so, in the
1979 technical revision, 55.3 lb/ft3 was used as the standard! weight of
sediment. What is the reason for the discrepancy?
RESPONSE '~
A weight of 100 lb/cu.ft. was based on experience in Florida
where it has been used successfully. However, assuming a sedi-
ment weight of 70 lb/cu.ft. will still yield an adequately sized
pond.
The design of the ponds west of County Road 53 was perform2d in
1979. The assumed sediment weight was used to provide a consgrva-
• tive pond size.

M130

eiLrnfa~.a4..~-.W~xYl ~l-•~c - NYMi®1]L.: aYaY~ ~~ l` ~N ~A:tt~}1F~ iR~l'~.l..i. :36.~:a.12u .. ~li nj'l iii ~.'~.
