2-14
MINING METHOD
i
Five to seven mainline entries will be developed as shown to access the three major
reserve blocks east of the graben. Submains, typically consisting of five entries will then be
driven to access the areas where production panels will be developed. As areas of the
reserves are extracted, the Submains and mains will be sealed as necessary to minimize the
amount of ventilation that is required for inactive areas of the mine.
Dependent on mining conditions, the mainline entry and crosscut spacing as well as those
for the Submains will vary from 75 feet to 200 feet. Entry width will be from; l6 feet to 20 feet.
A typical cross section forthe five entry system is shown in Fgure 2.1-2. '~
I
The production panels will be approximately 600 feet wide. Widths may vary to allow for
more efficient extraction of the irregularly shaped reserve blocks. The length of the production
panels will also vary to fit the outline of the area to be mined. Production panels will be mined
using room and pillar mining techniques. Entries will be advanced to the end of the panel then
the pillars will be mined on the way out of the panel. No speck pillar retriev I method has
i
been designed and adopted. The design will be undertaken as each panel is developed. As a
rule, second mining will occur in the upper portion of the seam. Bottom mining will only be
used with site specific approval from the BLM. When a standard pillaring plari is adopted for the
i
entire mine, an amendment to this mine plan will be submitted to the DMG and BLM. Barrier
pillars 200 feet wide will be left to protect the main entries. I

A~ Volume 1 4-29-96
