2-ii
• 2.1.4.2.4 Palisade Zone
The Palisade zone appears to include several thin stringers of coal in this area. One of the
Palisade seams locally thickens to five feet in certain parts of the permit area. Stratigraphically
it is more than 300 feet lower than the Cameo seam in the permit area. Additionally, the sulfur
content of the Palisade is significantly greater than the Cameo. Because of access and quality
problems, the Palisade Seam will not be mined in the foreseeable future.
2.1.4.3 Other Mineral Values
Although all exploration conducted by SCMC in the mining plan area has been directed at
the coal reserves, no other mineral values have been observed in the area. The area appears
to be open to mineral entry under the General Mining Law; however, no minerals locatable
• under the law are known to occur in the unit, nor are the geological conditions in the unit
surtable for their occurrence.
There appears to be little possibility of conflict with oil and gas interests. All of Section 10
and 15 (Figure 1.1-2) were withdrawn from the simultaneous oil and gas list on March, 1977 by
the Colorado State Director of the Bureau of Land Management.

M~ Volume 1 4-29.96
