<br /> <br />• Straw from oats, wheat, rye, or other approved grain crops and free of <br />noxious weeds or other objectionable material. Straw mulch may be placed with <br />mulch blowing equipment. <br />• Natural or cooked wood cellulose fiber. The homogeneous slurry should <br />disperse readily in water, be capable of being applied with power spray <br />equipment, and be non-toxic. Wood cellulose fibers will be packaged in new, <br />labeled containers. <br />• Corn mulch applied with a manure spreader or mulch blowing <br />equipment. <br />Steep slopes, such as those at Davis Point, have been identified as areas that will likely <br />require mulch application. At such locations, mulch will be worked into the soil (if <br />available) to improve growing conditions. <br />• Erosion Control Fabrics and Riprap: Erosion control fabrics, fibers, or mats may <br />be used to control erosion along stream banks, in areas of highly erodible soils, and on <br />steep slopes in excess of 40 percent. These materials will be anchored as they are <br />placed. In addition, streambeds and banks and areas of erodible soils may be stabilized <br />with riprap or similar controls. Rocks excavated during construction may be used for <br />this purpose. <br />• Restricting Access: In order to prevent rutting and subsequent erosional <br />problems, measures will be taken to prevent unauthorized use of the ROW as a <br />roadway. Access will be blocked by fencing at locations specified by the BLM or other <br />landowners. <br />2.7 Supplemental Plantings <br />If requested by the landowner (e.g., Unocal), cottonwoods, box elders, and/or willows <br />will be replanted along riparian zones in the Parachute Creek drainage where woody <br />species will be removed during construction of the ROW. Trees used in reclamation of <br />riparian areas will be native species obtained from nursery stock or cuttings. <br />Temporary fences may be installed around these areas to protect the plantings from <br />wildlife and livestock until they become established. <br />2.8 Rocks <br />Rock will not be permanently windrowed along the edge of the ROW. Rocks cleared <br />from the ROW during construction will be randomly placed back on the ROW to <br />approximate the density of surface rock on adjacent lands. Rock excavated during <br />construction will also be: 1) used for riprap at stream crossings, 2) buried on the ROW <br />during recontouring (if small enough), and 3) used to construct barricades to prevent <br />unauthorized use of the ROW. Rocks will not be distributed on cultivated lands. <br />There is limited rimrock along the pipeline corridor route.
