2.0 FIELD INVESTIGATION

A field investigation was performed at the site during the week
of September 10 through 14. This field investigation involved
the drilling of 5 soil borings and the placement of two
piezometers at Cameo Refuse Disposal Area No. 2 and the drilling
of 5 soil borings and one piezometer at Cameo Refuse Disposal
Area No. 3. The location of the test borings and piezometers are
indicated on the Test Boring and Piezometer Location Diagrams
(Figures 2 and 3). All of the test borings were advanced with a
power-driven continuous auger drill to depths ranging upwards to
55 feet.
• Samples were obtained using the Standard Penetration Test, ASTM
D-1586, utilizing a 2-inch OD split-barrel sampler. Standard
Penetration Tests are shown on the Drilling Logs to the right of
the sampling points in the column labeled "Blows/Foot". In all
cases, the Standard Penetration Tests was performed using a
hammer weighing 140 pounds which was dropped from a height of 30
inches for each blow. Samples were typically attempted at
intervals of approximately 5 feet. Several of these borings
involved just obtaining samples by bulk sampling rather than
using the split-barrel sampler, The logs of these borings can be
found in Appendix A of this report. The actual field logs are
available for inspection upon request to our office.
• Three piezometers were installed in the alluvium at the two sites
to monitor any potential groundwater levels.
