Gravel Pit, File ~M-95-030
Dear Mr. Mount:
~)ivision or aune,als s Geology
This project site has been reviewed and the site has been visited in company with
Mr. Tom Kroening of the Fort Morgan district.
Mr. Green toured the area to be mined with ue, as we were trying to ascertain if any
wetlands would be impacted. The area to be disturbed does not get into the wetlands
on the south perimeter. Basically, the area is open meadow, however, there are
quite a number of cottonwood trees that will be destroyed, these should be replaced
ae part of the reclamation project.
Negative impacts to wildlife can probably be offset by open water created by the
mine excavation. The area is within the floodplain of the South Plate river which
get rather extensive use by waterfowl during the fall and winter months. The warmer
water in the pits will most likely get rather heavy use by waterfowl during the cold
periods when the river ices up.
Sin rely,
D n Bogart
Environmen al Biologist
DB/jk
cc: File, Moss, Budde, Kroening
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, James S.
