' ARCADISGERAGHTY&MILLER
1
Technical Support
Document for the
CDPS Permit
Application
' 29) Priority Pollutant scan: Data not available since the unit is not yet operational. We will analyze the
efFluent waste stream for the pollutants in Appendix A of the petmit application when a waste stream is
' available.
30) Additional Monitoring: Relevant data are included in Appendix A and Appendix B attached to this
' application.
31) Submit a copy of all water quality monitoring data of outfalls or receiving streams gathered over
1 the past 5 years and which is required by DMG.
The data are included in Appendix B to this application, in electronic forma[. The program which can
' open the file is Microsoft Access or Excel.
32)Bulkstorage: Not applicable
' 33) Activity duration: Mining began at the site in Spring 1990 and ceased in October 1996.
' The estimated life of the activity from which the discharges to be permitted originate is described in
section 3.2.4 of TR-26.
' 34) Stormwater discharge: A Stormwater discharge permit is currently in place for the site. The Mine is
covered under CDPS General Permit No. COR-0400000 for Stormwater related discharge.
35) Pollution Prevention Plans: The following Best Management Practices (BMPs) have been employed
' at the mine site to prevent surface water and shallow groundwater from impacting the Rito Seco.
A french drain has been installed upgradient of the seep locations to intercept the seeps. The water
' captured by the French drain has been pumped back to the West Pit.
Isolation structures have been installed below the seeps to isolate the seep water from the surface water
' in the Rito Seco. The structures are built from steel curtains driven into the streambed. These curtains
are lined with HDPE inserts on the upstream side.
' A pumpback system has been installed to reverse the gradient away from the Rito Seco.
Run-on control measures have been installed across the reclaimed site to prevent Stormwater run-on
' from entering the Rito Seco.
An enhanced evaporation system has been installed to remove water from the West Pit. The
evaporation system is currently removing approximately 60 gpm.
' Diversion structures have been placed within the pits.
1
9/ 10
