TABLE 2.05.6-2
LORENCITO CANYON MINE
HAUL ROAD SEGMENTS
Approximate Haul TruckRound
Haul Truck Round Trips/Day 'Trips/Hour
Jeff Canyon Surface Mine to 200 IO
Loadout
Lorencito Canyon Surface Mine to 120 6
Loadout
Note: Based on 100,000 Tons per month, l5 tons per load (will be variable), 20 operating hours per day, 255
operating days per year.
In addition to haul truck traffic, seven support vehicles will utilize the haul roads on a daily basis
throughout the life of the mine. In addition to displacing wildlife, haul roads may increase the
potential for wildlife/vehicle conditions. Haul truck traffic would have greatest potential for
collisions at dawn and dusk. Generally, wildlife movements are greatest during the early morning
and early evening hours as animals move from resting areas to foraging areas.
• Disturbanct.s also would occur near fourteen identified raptor nests. However, mining activities
are not anticipated to physically remove any of these nests. During the 1996 field season, none
of the nests were active. If any nest is active prior to mining activities in the area or would be
removed by mining, Lorencito Coal Company would contact the USFWS prior to disturbance near
the nest. All nest sites or suitable nesting habitat would be available to raptors upon completion
of mining activities.
•
~~-o I
2.05-81 (revised 07/25/01)
