Reclamation Equipment
The following equipment may be used for reclamation on the Lorencito Canyon Mine permit area:
• Scrapers;
• Dozers;
• Farm tractors; and
• Hydroseeders
The following implements may be used with the farm tractor:
• ripper/subsoiler;
• chisel plow;
• disk;
• drill seeder;
• cyclone broadcast seeder;
• mulch crimper; and
• harrow/cultipacker.
• Seedbed Preparation
Seedbed preparation will be conducted immediately afrer grading, subsoiling and topsoiling, and
fertilizer application. On level to gentle slopes, the seedbed will be disked and harrowed along
the contour to break-up large clods. On steeper slopes, rocky sites, or on areas too narrow to
negotiate equipment, the soil surface will be left in a roughened condition. An irregular seedbed
will provide microsites for plant germination and reduce soil movement on steeper slopes.
Another stabilization technique which will be utilized to minimise erosion is contour furrowing.
Contour furrows will be employed along the highwall reclamation area, and will be installed prior
to seeding. Atypical cross-section of a contour furrow is depicted in Figure 2.05.4-19, Design
