Rule 2: Permits <br />• (4) Protection of Public Parks and Historic Places <br />There are no properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places within the permit area. <br />A total of 121 archaeological and historical sites are known to exist within the permit area. Of <br />these, five are recommended to be eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic <br />Places. An additional 12 sites are unevaluated for National Register eligibility. The reports for <br />the 1996, 1997, and 2001 field inventories include recommendations for additional evaluative <br />investigations for these sites. Site avoidance will always be considered the first alternative <br />treatment, but it is anticipated that avoidance will not be feasible in most instances. The area of <br />potential effect during the first phase of mine activity includes nin tares hat will be avoided <br />because of their status as eligible or potentially eligible. All cultural resource <br />• investigations have and will continue to be conducted under the guidelines of the Office of <br />Archaeology and Historic Preservation, and under the terms of a Memorandum of Understanding <br />between the Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology, Mined Land Reclamation Board <br />(formerly the Mined Land Reclamation Division of the Colorado Department of Natural <br />Resources) and the Colorado State Historic Preservation Office. <br />• ~/2-6/ <br />2.05-110 (revised 10/4/01) <br />
